High School Senior Checklist

I have:

  • taken or have registered to take the SAT and/or ACT
  • had my test scores sent to the appropriate colleges or universities
  • investigated my preferred institutions to gather information on any admission or financial aid deadlines
  • submitted application materials for admission to preferred institutions and also have sent required fees
  • applied for either on-campus or off-campus housing and paid necessary deposits
  • requested that my high school office send official transcripts to my colleges of choice
  • taken or registered to take the THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) if I am planning to attend a Texas public college or university (unless exempted by SAT, ACT or TAKS scores)
  • thoroughly investigated with my parents, counselor, and/or principal financial aid and scholarship opportunities
  • investigated the free sources that are available through the Web (scholarship search tools available at www.ppslc.com) and understand that I should not pay for any scholarship search
  • requested or submitted an institutional financial aid/scholarship application from the college or university I plan to attend, if required
  • discussed with my parents the need to have their most recent year tax return completed as early as possible since this information will be needed to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • submitted the FAFSA 4 - 6 weeks prior to the financial aid deadline of my preferred institutions if I wish to be considered for any financial aid

    NOTE: This form may be completed anytime after January 1 of your senior year. However, it is best to have a completed copy of the most recent year tax return for both parents and student when completing the form.

  • visited one or more college campuses
  • attended a "College Day/Night" program, typically held on high school or college campuses
  • attended a financial aid orientation covering all aspects of the financial aid application process—loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study
  • responded promptly to any request for information from the college or university I plan to attend
  • made arrangements for my final high school transcript to be sent to the college or university that I have chosen to attend
